Laapataa Ladies’ Plot

Set in rural India in the year 2001, Kiran Rao’s second cinematic venture unveils a side-splitting tale where two young brides find themselves comically entangled in a whirlwind of mistaken identities.

In a mix-up, new brides Jaya and Phool, adorned in beautiful crimson bridal saris, accidentally get switched when Phool’s nervous groom, Deepak, escorts Jaya off their overnight train by mistake. Consequently, the self-assured Jaya ends up temporarily staying with Deepak’s large family, while the reserved Phool is left alone at a distant train station.

In the story, Phool befriends a street kid and his friend, seeking refuge with a tough but caring tea vendor named Manju Mai, portrayed by Chhaya Kadam. On the other hand, Jaya enjoys the company of her affectionate sisters, engages in playful flirting, and seizes the opportunity to showcase her intelligence in Deepak’s lively home. Meanwhile, a gradually unfolding investigation is led by a quirky and overbearing local police officer named Shyam Manohar, played by Ravi Kishan, as the grooms cluelessly search for their missing wives.
